Securities Crowdfunding as an Alternative Source of Funding
Based on the 2024 National Survey on Financial Literacy and Inclusion conducted by the Financial Services Authority (“OJK”) in collaboration with the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the financial literacy rate in Indonesia reached 65.43% and the financial inclusion rate stood at 75.02%. Despite this progress, challenges in accessing funding are still encountered by the Small and Medium Enterprises (“SMEs”) and startups, particularly in non-strategic sectors.
With the advancement of the digital economy, Securities Crowdfunding (“SCF”) has emerged as an alternative solution for obtaining funding. Through SCF, SMEs and startups that facing difficulties in securing capital from conventional financial institutions and capital market can offer shares, bonds, or sukuk to the public via financial technology (“Fintech”) platforms. This model also provides investors the opportunity to invest with potential returns such as dividends or interest.
This article examines the regulation of SCF in Indonesia, including the licensing process, implementation, and the roles of the parties involved.
